hvJAZZ SUMMER

Bridge Arts and Education is excited to announce the return of the hvJAZZ Summer program! A week-long summer jazz emersion program for students interested in performing and learning about jazz.

All activities will be held in Kingston, NY.

Students will study with some of the region's top jazz educators in ensembles rehearsals, masterclasses and workshops. The week culminates with a student performance.

The program runs from Monday, August 1-August 5, 2022. The program will be split between intermediate and advanced players.

Students that are unsure of their level should contact us in advance of registering.

We will help you make the choice that will make you most successful.

Intermediate players

9:00 AM - 12:00 AM

WHO? Students in grades 6 and up. Students should have played their instrument for a minimum of 2 years. Be able to comfortably play 3 major scales and have a range of 1.5 octaves. Students at NYSSMA level 2-4 proficiency will be most successful in this program. (Students do not need to attend NYSSMA, it's just a guideline.)

INSTRUMENTS? All instruments are welcome including all woodwinds, brass, percussion, strings, etc. Unfortunately we don't have staffing for vocalists at this time.

PERFORMANCE? Students will perform for parents at 12 noon on the last day. The performance will also be made available on video for family members that can't attend.

Advanced players

1:00 PM - 4:00 PM

WHO? Students in grades 8 and up. Students should have played their instrument for a minimum of 4 years, be able to comfortably play 7 major scales. Some jazz experience preferred but not required. Students at NYSSMA level 4-6 proficiency will be most successful in this program. (Students do not need to attend NYSSMA, it's just a guideline.)

INSTRUMENTS? The advanced program will be specific to the instruments found in a typical jazz ensemble; saxophones (alto, tenor, baritone), trumpets, trombones, guitar, piano, bass, drums... We can make some exceptions to this guideline, so please contact us if you play an instrument that was not included in this list.

PERFORMANCE? Students will perform at 4:00 pm on the last day.

Tuition $320. (save $30 if your register before July 1, 2022) *
